The CauseNetwork Foundation Vehicle Donation Program

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of vehicles can I donate?  You can donate cars, trucks, vans, RVs, motorcycles, boats, ATVs, and more. If it’s a vehicle with a motor of any kind, you can donate it.

What paperwork do I need for my donation?  Most of the time all you need is a signed title, but if you have any questions or concerns please contact our donor service department at 800-269-6814.

Do I get a tax deduction for my donation?  Absolutely, if you itemize your tax return you may deduct the sale value of your donated vehicle or the fair market value up to $500, whichever is greater.  So if we can resell your vehicle for $3,000 you will receive a donation receipt for $3,000. To get your deduction you do have to file an itemized return. You can find more information on charitable vehicle deduction tax deductions at: http://www.irs.gov/charities

How much will my selected cause receive?  You cause will receive the proceeds from the sale of your vehicle after deducting the costs associated with picking up your vehicle, inspecting your vehicle, the costs of any repairs required before resale, fees paid to the auction company to sell your vehicle, title processing and adminstrative costs of operating the vehicle donation program.  Because these costs are mostly fixed and the selling price of your vehicle will vary based on it's fair market value, there is no fixed percentage of the proceeds that will go to your charity.  Despite these costs lowering the amount of money that goes to your charity, your donation receipt will 100% of the actual selling price of your vehicle, less only the costs of repairs (if any) required before selling your vehicle.

Will the donation be made in my name?  Yes, the donation to your cause will be made in your name.

Can I donate my car directly to my charity as opposed to through CauseNetwork Foundation?  Your cause chose to use the CauseNetwork Foundation vehicle donation program because it saves money and time versus finding an employee or volunteer to pick up donated vehicles, deal with title, inspection and repair issues, and then finding a way to sell your vehicle.  Most charities simply do not have enough employees or volunteers to effectively manage a vehicle donation program.  CauseNetwork Foundation's vehicle donation program removes the burden and complexity of charities dealing with vehicles directly, and provides an efficient turnkey system to accept vehicle donations.   To maximize the amount donated to your charity, sell your car on your own and donate the proceeds directly.

How efficient is CauseNetwork Foundation's program?  The CauseNetwork Foundation runs a very lean operation which allows us to donate the more to your cause.  Some competing charitable vehicle donation programs spend so much money advertising their programs that the resulting percentage of the selling price of vehicles donated the cause they support can be 35% of the selling price of your car, or even lower.  Because CauseNetwork Foundation does not spend money on mass media advertising, the percentage of your vehicle's selling price that is donated to your causes is always significantly higher that vehicle donation programs you hear about on radio, TV or Internet advertisements.  Additionally, our vehicle processing partner IAA is the largest and most efficient charitable vehicle donation program in the United States, and their low cost operating structure results in more of your car's value being donated to charity.

My car doesn’t run and is in bad condition, can I still donate?  Absolutely! We take almost any vehicle from almost any location.

When I donate a vehicle do I get a receipt?  Yes you will be mailed a receipt for tax deduction purposes about five days after your vehicle donation is picked up.  The amount of your donation receipt will be the actual selling price of your vehicle, less the cost of any repairs (if any) deemed necessary by our inspectors to maximize the selling price of your vehicle.

How do you pick-up my vehicle and who does that?  Your car or other vehicle will be towed from a location of your choice by a professional vehicle transportation company.

How soon will you tow my car after I donate it?  Typically your vehicle will be transported in 1-2 business days, but it can vary depending on the location of your vehicle.

Does my vehicle have to be at my home?  No, we are happy to pick-up your car, truck, or other vehicle from almost any location.

Can you pick up my vehicle when I'm not there?  Absolutely, most of the time you don’t have to be there when your vehicle is picked-up.
